Dan Egger-Belandria in World Rhythm Synergy October 10-14, 2011 World Rhythm Synergy is a high-energy multicultural event that infuses explosive drumming with meaningful group participation for students. Percussionist Dan Egger-Belandria shows children how they are connected, both culturally and musically. Along the way, they will have an opportunity to explore various African, Afro-Cuban and Caribbean rhythms and instruments. This bilingual program will have them playing, dancing, even rapping! Storybook Theatre in Two Pigs and T.H.E. Wolf

What foods make a well balanced meal and why are those foods so important? What is a good way to make new friends? Join Goldifox as she embarks upon an adventure hunting clue after clue in the forest. Incorporating nutrition facts, familiar sayings, and twists on nursery rhymes, this highly interactive show is sure to please. Best suited for grades K-2. $450 per performance.

Brass Quintet, under the leadership of Dr. Jeff Cottrell, brass professor at Hardin-Simmons University.
Opera Through Disney, under the direction of Dr. Rick Piersall, director of opera at Abilene Christian University
Residencies and Workshops
After School Dance Residencies:
The after school dance residency programs at College Heights and Bowie includes 4th and 5th graders. The program continues to be accepted with enthusiasm by the principal, the teachers, and most importantly, the students. Children meet with the artist once a week after school for one hour. Residencies are 10-12 weeks in the fall and 10-12 weeks in the spring.

Fine Arts Residency:
For the past nine years, Young Audiences of Abilene has provided fine arts residency programs to our AISD elementary schools, with each residency lasting nine weeks. K, 1st, and 2nd grade children are served by this music program. The Fine Arts Coordinator at AISD helps identify campuses with the greatest need for this program. Campuses targeted this year: Bassetti and Johnston Fine Arts
Resident: Eva Jo Kasinger
African Dance Residency:
Residency program at Lee, with a focus on the IRC children. The name of the residency is Bantaba, which is the West African word for “Welcome”, and the groups targeted are 4th and 5th graders. This is a fall and spring residency, meeting twice a week, after school. Dance Resident: Haley Carter
Common Ground:
In school residency program at Clack Middle School, focusing on the intermediate ESL class. Students learn basics of performing while dramatizing the novel “Shiloh.” Students meet with the artist every Friday for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring. A dvd of the performance will be created.
Drama Resident: Crystal Rae Wiley
From My Perspective:
Classroom workshops devoted to perspective and visual art. Scheduled in conjunction with the Fred Marcellino exhibit at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature. 40 minute workshops introduce children to the concept of drawing using one point perspective.
