Abilene Outdoor Exhibition and SculpTour

Abilene is home to the longest running outdoor sculpture exhibition of its kind in the state of Texas! The city is home to about 30 permanent contemporary sculptures by award-winning Texas artists along the N. and S. 1st railroad tracks through the center of town as well as other locations. The Abilene Cultural Affairs Council has also commissioned nearly 40 Storybook Sculptures downtown.

We have a map available at the T&P Depot of the sculpture locations or you can download it on our website. Every other September, we introduce four new sculptures for a two-year outdoor exhibit. These fun, abstract designs make downtown culturally vibrant!

Celebrating 44 years of SculpTOUR!

Singing Ringing Tree in Abilene

“The Singing Ringing Tree” is a wind-powered sound sculpture made up of nearly 27 tons of cascading pipes. The sculpture is positioned to maximize the wind blowing across the pipes to generate a humming sound that has been described as “melodious.” The sculpture was inspired by a German fairy tale about a spoiled princess who demands the Singing Ringing Tree from a would-be suitor. The tree’s leaves ring with music for those with love in their hearts.
