Celebrate Christmas with Winnie-the-Pooh and friends
ABILENE, TX – Put on your pajamas or your favorite Winnie-the-Pooh character costume and head to the Hundred Acre Woods to celebrate with Winnie and friends at Christmas in the Garden on Friday, December 5. Families can enjoy Winnie themed crafts, food and games in the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden and train rides in the new Clear Fork Bank Storybook Garden. Both gardens are beautifully decorated with holiday lights and are located on the south side of the Abilene Convention Center.
Winnie and all his friends will be at the garden to greet families and take pictures, including Kanga with Roo, Rabbit, Eeyore, Owl, Piglet and Tigger. Other activities include face painting, balloon creations, a book reading and performance by Chorus Abilene’s BackBeat. Children will have the opportunity to share their wishes with Santa Claus. Seven and One Books will be selling books and gifts.
Families have two sessions to choose from – 5 to 6 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per family.
We will unveil a new addition to the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden during the first session. The bronze storybook sculpture based on Sophie Blackall’s illustration in “Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear” was installed during the 2022 Children’s Art + Literacy Festival and only the bear was featured. The book illustration pictured Christopher Robin on the bear’s back, and that addition has been created by artist Steve Neves and cast in bronze and will be unveiled during this special event!
You can purchase tickets at www.abilenecac.org while spots are available. About 400 people are expected this year.
Christmas in the Garden is presented by the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council. The theme of Christmas in the Garden was inspired by the 2026 Children’s Art + Literacy Festival, which will take place in June and celebrate “The Art of Winnie-the-Pooh.”

We want to believe that serendipity brings us together, but is that just a myth? Mining the comedy of missed connections, “This Random World” asks the serious question of how often we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing. From an ailing woman who plans one final trip, to her daughter planning one great escape and her son falling prey to a prank gone wrong, this funny, intimate and heartbreaking play explores the lives that may be happening just out of reach of our own.

2025-26 season Broadway in the Big Country presents “Hadestown”
COME SEE HOW THE WORLD COULD BE. Welcome to HADESTOWN, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new show from celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and original director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today... and always. Intertwining two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — HADESTOWN is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
Book by John Caird
Music and lyrics by Paul Gordon
Additional lyrics by John Caird
Directed by Joey Banks
Musical direction by Dr. Chris Hollingsworth
Charlotte Bronte’s timeless story invites us into a world where love is tested, the truth costly and the soul’s resilience shines. As Jane rises from the ashes of abandonment and cruelty, her heart is shaped by grace and guided by a moral compass that will not yield, even for love. When she meets the enigmatic Mr. Rochester, their bond sparks a passionate struggle between desire and righteousness. More than a romantic musical, “Jane Eyre” is a story of spiritual awakening, the power of forgiveness and the quiet triumph of a woman who refuses to settle for anything less than love that is both pure and true. According to composer Jason Robert Brown, Songs for a New World is “about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.”
With a rousing score that blends elements of pop, gospel and jazz, Songs for a New World transports its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. A small cast and a supercharged score appeal to all generations as each character -- in their own way -- takes hold of their moment and enters a new world. Directed by Dr. Stace Gaddy. Appropriate for all ages, but best suited for ages 12 and up.

“Noises Off” is a fast-paced love letter to the insanity of live theatre, filled with slapstick humor, mistaken identities and a sharp commentary on the fragile egos and tangled relationships behind the curtain. The play follows a second-rate acting troupe attempting to stage a mediocre British farce. As the story unfolds, the audience gets to see the same play from different perspectives - onstage, backstage and then both unraveling in real time.
Tickets are $40.
